On The Roost

A blanket of clouds slowly gathered above, with gentle thunder rattling across the sky. The most anticipated rain has come after four long months of waiting. I love the sound of the rain trickling down the roof, the freshness and coolness in the air it brings. Getting motivated to do some housework on a rainy day eludes me, instead I avert my attention to cooking; I find chopping, crushing, grating very therapeutic and relaxing. The aroma of fresh veggies roasting, the mouth-watering crisp chicken baking away in the oven sends my appetite into overdrive. My kitchen is my little haven, where I can create and express my culinary imagination.

A good book in my hand and a cup of tea, just few of the things I like to do on a    rainy day

Sharing some of my roses: Full Sail and Mr Lincoln

Ready for roasting-potatoes, carrots, beetroot smothered in lemon squeeze, olive oil and thyme. Perfect accompaniment for my roasted chook

                                And voila! Perfectly baked veggies!

Watching the rain from our Verandah-

Or simply chilling on a sofa

Contemplating what to do next....learn to crochet perhaps??

Or

Marvel at what three days of rain can do.

A bounteous veggie patch brings happiness and a great reward to those who are  deserving

Our sleepy pond is overflowing to the rim. Watch out for the little boy whose tackle is lost in the stream.

  1. Hi Aida,

What a beautiful bounty you have gathered from your garden, such wonderful colours! Your veggie bake and roasted chicken look absolutely scrumptious! I agree with you; rainy weather calls for a good book and soothing cup of something hot and delicious. I would also choose to have something baking in the oven, to warm up the house, instead of clean, besides better to clean when the sun is shining as it just makes everything look so much brighter!

Your roses are very pretty, indeed and, as always, your veranda is my favourite place to sit and watch Mother Nature do her thing!

Have a lovely week, my friend!

  2. It must be a relief for the soil having rain after such a long time. Your flowers flourish and your vegetables look fresh and in the meantime you have made a delicious dinner and are sitting comfortably inside or on your verandah with a cup of tea and a lovely book. Enjoy your life!

  4. We had rain on Wednesday - all through the night. The sound was wonderful. Everyone was out talking about the rain on the beach yesterday. The consensus was no one could remember the last time it rained - we think last February.

  6. Aida,
The picture of the tea, book, and red rose is my favorite picture of all. They all speak to my heart. The roasted vegetables and chicken look simply delicious. I usually steam my veggies, but I think I will try to roast them for a change. Your roses are just beautiful. It looks like you are doing some special things on a rainy day.

Happy Thanksgiving, dear Aida. Enjoy your turkey!

    Love,
    ~Sheri

  7. Aida,
Just stopped by to see your roses again. They are so beautiful.

I hope you are enjoying the Christmas season. I love coffee, but I also love tea as well. In fact, I'm sipping on green tea right now while reading your lovely blog.

  9. Hope you are well and enjoying your garden. It is winter here in Colorado/USA so I can't imagine a garden now. We still have a little snow and more to come! Merry Christmas!

  11. Aida,
I babysit a little girl named Aida, so right away I had to come visit you! Love your veggie patch. Makes me long for ours. It has been so
cold here in the Midwest. I am trying raised beds this year. Our soil has never been that great. I can't wait to see how well it works. Your roses are beautiful too. Thanks for stopping by. I will follow you.
    Hugs,
    Sherry
