In sweltering heat

As the mercury rapidly heads north, the scorching heat damaged many of our annuals and perennials, leaving them rather weary and thirsty.

These pink roses are tough as nails, prolific is her name and colour is her game.

A bouquet for beauty, bringing life to my arty-crafty sanctuary.

Added some vintage tins and bygone time frames; a solitude I escape to when life goes awry.

Flowers bring happiness, whether imprinted on a tin, sewn on a bag or hanging by the applique, their complex beauty never gets under-estimated.

And when the future looks a little blurry, here in this room I stay for musings or deep thought of happy imagery.

Vine-ripened tomatoes, despite this unbearable heatwave. A taste-test will prove if they are as sweet as they look

I harvested a bunch of rhubarb before the heat soaked up its tangy juice.

These eggplants don't seem to budge from the volatile heat of the sun. They just grow bigger and rounder, happily hanging by their scrawny-looking limbs.

Some like it hot and some shrivel away from the cold, this frangipani withstands the hottest temperatures of the day.

The only thriving naked lady collaborated with agapanthus emanate sweet scent in my household.

I never tire of acquiring things of time gone by, perhaps a little passe' but managed to retain the lustre of its beauty.

  2. Dear Aida,

How very pretty is this post!! You already had me with the beautiful roses, in all their different vases and locations, BUT when my BELOVED frangipani flowers appeared before my eyes, they literally lit up the screen and my heart! I've tried TWICE to nourish these most heavenly scented flowers, but have not succeeded yet! I believe the first time, they may have been overly watered, and the second planting has not sprouted any blooms yet, whose scent is one of my all time favourites, along with lilacs, peonies, jasmine and honeysuckle. Any advice??

Enjoy the fruits of your labour, my friend, and thanks for framing my day with such loveliness!

    1. Hi Poppy, they need to grow in a sunny position but a little protected like next to a wall or a house, with at least 6 to 8 hours of sunlight a day. Ours is growing in a very sandy soil with lots of organic material. If growing from cuttings, these need to be hardened before planting. They like lots of water when establishing but the soil need to be free-draining. Hope this helps.

Goodluck, let me know how you go.

    2. Hi Aida,

Just saw this after your visit to Poppy View! Our frangipani is planted about 4 feet from the front of the house, but exposed otherwise and the truth is, it can get very windy up here. I'll have to observe the hours of sunlight and take it from there to see if it has to be moved. Thanks for letting me know and for the wonderful tips! I will follow them as closely as possible this spring!

  7. Oh Aida,
I love your posts so much. Your pink roses are such a pretty color. I love that little vintage bag. I can't believe it's been so hot where you live. Your tomatoes look delicious. There's nothing like home grown tomatoes, is there? My mom used to take eggplant and fry it. I really miss that dish of hers looking back. My dad would bring in all these wonderful vegetables from his garden. This picture of the yellow flowers is truly one of the prettiest I've seen.

Yes, I would love to have tea with you, and I would like some of that candy to go along with it.

    Have a blessed weekend, friend.

    Love,
    ~Sheri
